Welcome from our Pastor

Picture
On behalf of Saint Mary Church and Church of the Holy Spirit, I would like to welcome you to our faith community.  We are two dynamic Catholic Churches that were joined into one parish on June 29, 2017. Both campuses are united in our desire to be witnesses of Christ’s love, mercy and compassion to all we encounter and for those we serve.  Please familiarize yourself with our community through our webpages, and join us at one of our Masses.  We hope you will make Annunciation Parish YOUR parish.

Peace, Father Shawn

MERRY CHRISTMAS from MUSIC MINISTRY!

Our Adult Choir and Chamber Orchestra worked together over the past few months to put together a remote performance of a Music Ministry Christmas staple: "An Irish Christmas Blessing," by Keith and Kristyn Getty.  This performance features Angelina Zacharias with a vocal solo.  From our entire Music Ministry family, we wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!

One Minute (plus...) Reflections

After a bit of a hiatus, our One Minute (plus...) Reflections return for Advent 2020.  Enjoy!

A message from Fr. Shawn and Fr. Josh...

November 2, 2020

Dear Parishioners,
Per State of Connecticut guidelines, as of Monday, November 2, 2020, the limit for in-person attendance at our parish churches has been reduced to 100 people in attendance for public Masses. Please be assured that we are continuing to provide for social distancing in both of our parish churches via roping off pews, everyone must wear a mask, making hand sanitizer readily available, and cleaning the churches after Masses. We will also be making announcements before communion to remind all of our parishioners of the guidelines for receiving the Eucharist (maintain at least two pew-lengths when in line, encouraging parishioners to receive communion via hand, if you wish to receive communion on the tongue please wait until the end of the line).

We realize that many of our parishioners are still uncomfortable returning to public Masses. Archbishop Blair has granted dispensation to attend Sunday Mass to everyone in the Archdiocese of Hartford through February 16, 2021 in light of the current situation. We still encourage everyone to participate in the Masses offered by our parish online via Facebook and our website, or via the television Masses from the Office of Radio & Television or EWTN. Also, please remember your parish needs your financial support even when you are not able to attend. Weekly offertory may be mailed to the rectory offices or you can sign up for online giving via our website at www.annunciationnewington.com
Please be assured that we are praying for you all, and we appreciate your prayers!

Peace,
Fr. Shawn and Fr. Josh

Fr. Josh Answers Your Questions!
Updated October 2020

Thank you to all parishioners who have submitted questions (and to Fr. Josh for providing insightful answers)!

How do you expect to handle the crowd size for the 4PM Christmas Eve mass?
As we get closer to Christmas Eve and have a clearer understanding of what the situation looks like at that time, we will be coming out with guidelines for attending Christmas Eve Masses.  As of now, the current Archdiocesan and State of Connecticut limits on attendance are capped at 200 people.  We may have to institute a reservation system of some kind, but we will get word out well in advance to let our parishioners know the procedures.  As a reminder, one of our 4:00pm Masses will be live-streamed via Facebook and posted later on our parish website.

I know that the church cannot take a position in the election of any candidate and has provided information for people to review.  However, my question, if a candidate is "pro-choice" isn't that enough for that person to be disqualified from consideration no matter what other views they have on any other topic, as the killing of innocent children is in direct opposition to one of the most fundamental principles of the Catholic Church.  Who cares what position this type of politician has on taxes, school choice, the supreme court etc.
The issue of abortion and respect of life at all stages is of utmost concern to the Church and rightly deserves to be one of the most important issues to consider when trying to make a well-formed decision, whether it be in our own lives, society as a whole, or in our approach to politics.  Protection of God's children is often considered the basis of everything else we hold to as a Catholic Christian community, because if we cannot protect those who are unable to protect themselves then the rest of what we stand for may be called into question.

Archbishop Blair recently released a video titled, "Catholic Guide to Voting, 2020."  You can view the video by following this link: https://youtu.be/ej6pDnivIdo
